Monster Murder Mystery

This suite consists of six activities, six posters, and two pages of "notes."

The students do different activities to get clues/information about a crime (somebody poisoned the candy at the monster party, sending Frankenstein's bride to the hospital).

1. Start by either posting the suspect/victim profiles around the room (more challenging) or giving a copy of each to each team/student (less challenging). Then run through the power point to give the students the premise.

2. Students choose an activity to complete based on which clue it gives them. For five of the activities, the clue appears in the process of doing the activity. For the crossword, the students exchange a complete crossword for the Interview Notes two-page information sheet. I would make envelopes labelled with the clue type to store the activity sheets, rather than have them choose the activities based on the activity type.

3. Students/groups can only work on one activity at a time. Some answers are dependant on reading the suspect/victim profiles. Once the students have enough clues, they can attempt to guess the criminal. I typically make them get all six clues before allowing them to guess. (Note: The Word Search to find the witness to the crime is a red herring. This clue doesn't actually help find the criminal. If you want to make the activity suite take less time, you can omit it.)

4. As this is an activity themed for Halloween, when they finish I have them ask me "Trick or Treat" and give them a small treat bag, usually with a bonus for the first team to finish.
