Unlisted Grammar

This is a tag for grammar points that haven't been created yet.

These activities are based around grammar, themes, or other material that doesn't have a tag. There's always a balance between making so many tags that nobody could possibly look through all of them, or limiting the tags so much that it's hard to find anything.

These activities will need to be recategorized at some point, but it's an on-going process!

  • Routine Race

    This can be used for Unit 2 of the New Horizon ES lesson or any lesson about the use of adverbs of frequency.

  • Always, Usually, Sometimes, Never

    Practice when to use always, usually, sometimes, never with a Doraemon theme.

  • Mystery Match 3

    Students combine sentence parts to make three original sentences and try to get a match 3. Practices: "[be] sure that..." "[be] glad that..." and "[hope] that..."

  • We SHOULD Camp

    Student plan a camping trip with their group using should

  • Questions: 人 want(s) だれだれ to [verb]

    List of prompt questions using the infinitive e.g. "I want everyone to know this fact." (New Horizon 3)

  • Adjectives and Good Reactions

    Students review some common adjectives and some good reactions for conversations.

  • One Piece Showdown

    Fight using One Piece characters to practice vocabulary and grammar

  • Hotel Help!

    pg 17 from NH2 textbook. Writing and speaking. Using inspiration from bette1996's activity.

  • Food Chain Activity

    Teacher act as tourists as students give directions as locals in different countries.

  • Almost Pokemon Battle Game with Randomizer

    Same as Almost Pokemon Battle, but with some small tweeks.

  • Prefecture Quiz (Updated to 32)

    A 4-hint listening quiz using famous things about different Japanese prefectures.

  • Simple/Complex Relay

    Students practice combining simple sentences into complex ones and separating complex sentences into simple ones.

  • Hogwarts Sorting Hat Interview

    Students interview their partner about their junior high school experience to find out which Hogwarts House they belong in. Intended for use with third year JHS but could be adapted.

  • Where is Doraemon

    Practice rooms in the school by guessing where Doraemon is

  • "Can" sentences matching powerpoint

    A matching game where students try to make correct sentences. Template is for JHS 1st grade.

  • Vocabulary Spell-A-Thon

    This game allows you to review vocabulary with the students by testing their listening and writing skills in pairs. Suitable for JHS and SHS, as well as low-level SHS students.

  • Story

    Students piece together a story while practicing grammar from the semester / year. Students read, write, listen, and speak in this activity.

  • Haunted House Making

    A fun activity for practicing Halloween vocabulary.

    Students try to make passive sentences from sheets over paper located on the walls of the classroom.

    Students practice "I go to ~ by ~" through a quick survey of their classmates.

  • Polite Conversations

    Students practice speaking and polite conversation with a fun comic.

  • Land Of The Blind

    Students work in pair teams; one blindfolded while the other issues commands to move around the room and avoid getting caught by the Oni (Devil) team.

  • Canada Quizzes

    Three choice quizzes I use when first start at schools. Might be useful for other ALTs from Canada.

  • How Much Shopping

    Students ask "How much is~?" to find out the prices of the items in this info gap activity.

  • Shall I Shopping

    Students practice "Shall I show you...." while role playing shopping for clothes.

  • CHARACTER RACE

    The horse race activity played on the board. I often do it as a review before tests.

  • ODD ONE OUT

    A discussion activity useful for 3rd year classes.

    I pair activity where students can practice shopping language, such as "shall I show you a smaller one." etc.

  • Super Mario Christmas Blast

    A fun Christmas Mario-themed quiz game, where teams battle each other in a test of knowledge! Built off the original Super Mario Typhoon by Alexander Grant.
