If the class has sense of humor, you would have a good laugh allthrough out the game. I had a class where a student gave me a wasabi furikake from his bag and everyone was laughing.
I. Warm up: Whose is this? Powerpoint (Doraemon, Sazae, etc.) See related link for the pptx.
Let students try to answer in the 2nd picture onwards. Call for volunteer to get an answer and let them repeat it.
II. Small Talk with JTE: Look Around
AET/JTE will look around the classroom and ask the owner of random things.
E.g.
AET: Whose bag is that?
JTE: Where?
AET: The bag in the shelf.
Students: It’s (Yuta’s)
JTE asks students then what they understood from the small talk and tries to explain further about the small talk.
Challenge the class to guess who owns the things the teachers will show them
AET/JTE: Whose --- is this?
Students: Is it (AET's, Taki sensei’s) pen?
JTE/AET: Yes, it’s mine./ No, it’s not mine.
III. Speaking Activity
A. Class
Ask all the students to decide for one thing they own that they want to use in the game.
Divide them into two groups: window team and door team. Play janken. The loser is the guesser.
The JTE will take charge of the door team and the AET the window team. Take a practice round.
The first team player will give JTE/AET an object that one of the members own while the team guesser bow down/cover their eyes so they won’t see. Afterwards, ask the team guesser to get up and JTE/AET raises the object and the team player will ask altogether:
Group A: Whose --- is that?
Group B: Is it (Kota’s) ----?
Kota: Yes, it’s mine./ No, it’s not mine.
B. Group
In a group, one student will be the guesser. Other students will choose one thing and show it to the guesser. He/She will bow down while the others are looking for the thing they want to show. The guesser only has one chance.
Members: Whose (pen) is this?
Guesser: Is it yours?(pointing to the guess person)
Guess person: No, it’s not./Yes, it’s mine.
If he/she guessed wrong, he will do the guessing again.
