One hundred activities!
November 17, 2018
Here in Nagano, the last of the leaves are clinging to the branches for dear life, and winter is just around the corner. As an American, I'm craving pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to have any this year unless I cook it up myself!
Over the last month or so, I've added the following things to the site:
- You can edit the tags on an activity without going through the editing and approval process. If you've posted an activity, log in and you should see a "Edit Tags" button when you go to its page. Click on that and you can either delete tags by clicking on their name in red, or add more to the activity by adding them in the drop-down menu. The UI for this isn't great, but as we add more tags, hopefully it should make it easier to make sure your activities are still easy to find.
- The Elementary, Junior High, and High School pages list the overall top 10 activities at their level, along with warm-ups and textbooks. I'd like to make them good landing pages for teachers at each level. Do you have any ideas for useful information to show on each landing page?
- You can now submit comments without reloading the page. It's 2005 all over again!
- Activities now have their name built into their links. This should give a little more information if you link an activity to someone, and apparently it helps us a bit with search engines. The old links will still work, so don't worry!
- I've added a "tag of the moment" box to the front page to call attention to different tags. If you have an activity you use that matches it, feel free to send it in!
I'm going to try and work on several things next, but I'll try to prioritize based on user feedback. A couple users have been asking for a shoutbox a-la Englipedia, and I'll see if I can integrate one with the site soon. Hopefully it'll be a good source of information and advice. I'm partway through creating the activity search system I'd mentioned before. I'd thought about using a service called OAuth to allow people to log in with their Facebook or Twitter accounts, but seeing as how those companies have been under a bit of scrutiny lately, maybe I'll keep that on the shelf for the time being!
Do you have any suggestions for things you want to see on the site? Leave a comment below and let us know!
Before I go, I should mention that our job listings page is quite active with job listings from our site's sponsor, NagaJob. There's been several postings in the famous ski town Hakuba, as well as in scenic Matsumoto and Ueda. Check out the page from time to time!
Oh yeah!
