Announcing the Textbook Manager system

Jake the Admin

September 8, 2024

I’ve just built a system into the site that allows individual users to create and edit the page listings for textbooks.

This is a long time coming. There have been new Elementary textbooks in use this year, but I didn’t have time to track down the textbooks myself and create listings for them. Even if I did, the next wave of revised Junior High textbooks would probably be completely unfeasible for me to add, frankly speaking. I thought that textbook listings should be maintained by people who actually use them every day.

Users will need to apply for a textbook manager position so I can add them manually. Giving everybody edit rights would lead to a mess pretty soon, as you might imagine. I’ve made a page explaining how the system works and how to apply, but in general, please apply only if you think you can follow through and keep your textbook updated and organized. I should note that unlike Community Managers, textbook managers are publicly identified on the textbook’s page, although it’s just your username and not any personal information, of course.

I’m hoping that this will lead to a much wider range of textbooks available for everyone’s reference.

Incidentally, can any active Elementary teachers tell me if the existing (2020 and before) textbooks are no longer in use? I have a flag I can switch on each textbook to “retire” it from the main listings, but I don’t know what’s being used currently. Are Let’s Try, We Can, and Here We Go still being used in your schools?

To be honest, this feature should have been available much sooner. I’ve been unproductive on my work developing the site this year. I started a new job in April and I have a toddler at home, but I probably could have taken 10 or 15 minutes here and there much more often than I did. I’ve let a lot of items pile up on my to-do list for the site and haven’t made a lot of progress. I’ll try and do more this fall.

Sounds good. I can tell you that in my area Let's Try 1+2 are still in use but One World Smiles 5+6 (2020) have been replaced with - One World Smiles 5+6 (2024). Thanks for the work you do.

Same here for Let's Try 1 and 2, but 5th and 6th gradres are using updated New Horizons 5 + 6 (2024) from this year.

The fifth and sixth grade books I am using seem to have numerous similarities with the previous editions, so in some cases activities aimed at the older editions are still relevant and useful now.

Thank you as always for all your efforts. The site continues to be invaluable.

My school is still using Lets Try 1&2, and changed from New Horizons 5&6 (2020) to One World 5 (2024) and New Horizon 6 (2024) (no idea why two different textbooks). Thank you for all your hard work!

My schools are still using the LTs for both 3 and 4 while grade 5 uses Here We Go! 5 and grade 6 uses the new New Horizon 6.

Thanks for always keeping this community updated!

Four our area, elementary schools are still using Let's Try 1 and 2, but now use Here We Go! 5 for fifth grade, and NH 6 2024 edition for 6th grade.

New Horizon 5 and 6 have been updated for the 2024 school year. Like everyone else has said, Let's Try 1 and 2 remain unchanged and are still in use.

Awesome! My school is using Blue Sky books for 5th and 6th, and while the textbook is listed as a tag, it doesn't have it's own textbook listing, so if that could be added, that would be amazing!

  9. SolanKJ September 11, 2024

    Sounds awesome.

This is a great idea! As far as I know, We Can 1&2 were replaced with various 5th and 6th grade level books when English became a graded subject, so they are no longer in use.

Okay, I've put "We Can" into the "old textbook" section.

  12. Pkron September 18, 2024

We probably need Crown Jr. 5 and 6 (2024) as options for elementary

Is anybody knows how to access the old version of Here we go 5&6. New version is being used right now but there are no mini cards at the back of the textbook. If somebody knows where to access them please share it. Thanks in advance.

The old versions are still there. On the "Textbook Listings" page, there's a link that says "Older Textbooks." If you click on that it will show the listings for textbooks that have been replaced with a newer version.

Hi Jake, thank you for all of your hard work. We might need 2024 Junior Sunshine as well.

  17. Doctor Tenma October 10, 2024

My high school uses the 'My Way' textbook series for Logic and Expression 1, 2, and 3
