The year in review: 2024
December 18, 2024
We’ve made it to the end of the year, so it’s time for another wrap-up post! As usual, I ran the stats from December 15 last year to the same day this year, and here’s what the database said:
- There were 1,716 activities posted, not including activities which didn’t make it through moderation or were deleted later
- 3,800 comments were posted
- 4,800 user accounts were registered
- 3,700 lessons were tracked using the Lesson Tracker
- 460 activity tags were voted on (I was hoping this would be much higher, but that's a goal for next year)
- 3,500 activity collections were created
- 16 Community Moderators started their terms
- These moderators made 2,900 votes
- 46,000 thumbs up were given on activities (over half the all-time total of 83,000)
A lot of these were pretty close to last year’s stats, with a general increase across the board, but not as dramatic as last year. I think the site has generally found its audience and has had a consistent level of activity over the course of the year. This would be an issue if I were trying to claim endless growth for advertisers and investors, but fortunately there aren’t either of those involved with ALTopedia.
As far as new features, the Textbook Manager system was developed this year and there are now a number of new textbooks that have been added by users of the site. I also had to build in some code to cut down on spam bots registering, but if you’re a normal human then you probably haven’t noticed them.
I wish I could point to more features and development work, but as I’ve mentioned in other posts, it’s been a busy year for me. Next year might be even busier, but I’ll need to focus more and make use of what time I have.
Enjoy the winter break, and see you in 2025!

I wouldn't have survived my first 2 months of teaching had a fellow ALT not told me about the site. It helped so much and inspired me to make my own great lessons!
Thanks for giving us this platform and empower us to be better at teaching.
