This is just a section of my January English board, but you can make it your entire board for the month. This was also an idea passed down to me by my predecessor, who even made the bottle the numbered sticks go in.
First, write out some fortunes for your students, here are my examples:
So-so!
- Summer: Spring will be difficult, but summer will be nicer.
- Motivation: You will find more motivation to study English.
- Vocabulary: Try practicing vocabulary out loud!
Lucky!
- (insert JTE's name) Luck: You will learn a lot from (JTE's name) this year!
- Summer: You will have a lucky summer.
- 25 words: You will do well on a 25 words test.
Very Lucky!
- Test Luck: A question that you studied for will be on the test.
- Confidence: Your English is very good. Be confident in yourself.
- (Your name) Luck: You will have a nice chat with (your name).
Future Luck:
- Summer: Summer will be luckier than spring.
- Speaking: Practice your speaking skills by talking with (your name).
- Believe: Believe in yourself. Practice makes perfect!
I know that some of these fortunes aren't really fortunes, but you can change it up however you'd like.
Write these fortunes onto a long strip of paper that your students can open and close when they go to read their fortune (see the attached image).
Then take a bottle and either drill a hole into the cap, or find a way to make the bottle opening smaller. Wrap the bottle in duct tape or something to make it look nicer. Take wooden chopsticks and write numbers on each that will then correspond with a fortune paper. Place the chopsticks into the bottle and hang the bottle near or on the board. Students can come and take a stick from the bottle then read the fortune that corresponds with that number.
That's a great idea! Thank you very much for sharing!
