Students get into groups, using one tablet per group, and have to say the target phrase in order to earn points. I've always referred to this game as trivia challenge because I use the basic style for review often and had no other name for it but it's a bit like jeopardy. You can play as a class or in groups.
Horizontally there are different animals and vertically there are different target phrases ( 'Live in' and 'Eat' ) students are supposed to use these to make a sentence. For example "Bears eat nuts". Then they find the intersection of those two rows and click the square to reveal the points below.
There are some squares that have special items (2 varieties).
The first type is a bomb. If you open this square then your points explode and your total is zero (only the person who opened the square).
The second type is an arrow. This means change. The student who opens this square gets to change their total points with anyone in the group of their choice. (even if they have the most points they still have to change with a member of their group)
I give my students point sheets to write down and keep track of their points. b5 paper would work fine.
The original game I made doesn't have the final bit to the sentence. It was designed to make the kids think and make the sentences themselves. I know this may not be possible for all students and some may want to only play for practice so I created an 'Easy' version for this reason.
Please note there is also a teacher's version. This is for the ALT or Teacher to use as the example game when describing the rules. The points and locations are different from the game version. Points are located in the 1st, 4th, and last columns. Change cards are located in the 2nd column. and Bomb cards are located in the 3rd column.
There are 4 'boards' in the student versions. Each with different animals and point card locations.
This game was designed for Here We Go! 6 textbook - Unit 5. Most of the images come from the text book picture dictionary because the students are familiar with them.
