Exciting Christmas Quiz and KARUTA!

This is a fun Christmas activity lesson I will be doing with my JHS students.

Set up:
Print and cut up enough KARUTA cards for your class. On the A3 sheet, there are 2 sets of cards.
[You don't need the double sided backing to play KARUTA, but if you ever want to use the cards for anything else it might be useful.]

Method:
[There are detailed instructions on the PPT also.]
Start with the Kahoot! It is mainly a Christmas trivia quiz, with some British focused questions.
If you want to edit, please duplicate first!

KARUTA instructions:
Divide the students into groups of 2-4.
Teach the Christmas vocabulary - Use this video to introduce the vocabulary. It is aimed at much younger students than JHS, but my students had a laugh watching it anyway!

Give each group a set of cards.
Students should spread the cards on their desks.
To play: students ask ‘What do you want for Christmas?’
Students listen to the ALT’s answer and slap the correct card e.g. ‘I want a snowman!’ [students touch snowman card]
Between each round, students should put their hand on their heads to avoid creeping fingers. You can also mix it up and get them to put their hands on their shoulders or knees etc.
Repeat the process until all the cards are taken.
The student with the most cards in each group wins! Christmas stickers as prizes (courtesy of Daiso 😉).
