DETAILED EXPLANATION:
Split the class in half. The ALT/JTE are each responsible for each half. Starting with one student, give them a baton and do a gesture. Once the student guesses the gesture, they hand the baton to the next student.
Rinse and repeat.
The team to finish fastest is the champion.
Gestures include:
- OK
- Good (thumb up)
- Bad (Thumb down)
- I don't know (shrug shoulders)
- Bored (yawn and twiddle thumbs)
- Money (rubbing middle and fore fingers with thumb)
- Crazy (twirl finger in a circle around forearm)
- Honest (hand on heart)
- Counting (with fingers)
- Me
- Come here
- Go away
- Be quiet (sshh!)
- I'm lying (cross fingers)
- I forget (smack head with hand)
- So-so (palm down, rocking hand back and forth)
VARIATIONS:
- Instead of splitting the class into half, split them by rows and have the first person in each row stand up. Do the gesture and the first student to raise their hand and give the correct answer earns a point for their team.
TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:
- You might go over all the words with the students before the game starts to ensure they know the meaning, however, when you explain the meaning, don't use gestures because it won't be as fun when you start the game.
- Of course, any of these gestures can be changed and/or deleted according to your own cultural background.
