Relative Pronoun Group Trivia

Group category trivia using relative pronoun sentences as hints

This is a worksheet that uses the relative pronouns "that" and "which."

There are 3 categories: School, Sports, and Food. The kids work together in groups to write the word that fits the description. The description is a sentence using a relative pronoun. So it's basically Jeopardy disguised in relative pronoun reading practice.
I tried to think of topics most kids would know the answer to and how to spell it, but there may be difficult ones in here.

I haven't done this activity yet as I made it during summer vacation to prepare for upcoming lessons, but here is how I am planning to use it:

  1. Make groups of 3-4. Give each group one paper but either fold it on the dotted lines and make sure they don't unfold it or if they can't handle the temptation then cut the paper into 3 pieces.
  2. Make sure the kids have their textbooks for reference. My school uses New Crown so I put the reference pages at the top right but if you use a different textbook, then make sure to change this to the appropriate pages.
  3. Set a timer (5 ish min depending on their level) and have the kids work in their group to answer the first 5 questions (the school section if you do it in my order).
  4. When a group is finished, they bring it up to the ALT or JTE. Check the answers. Here you can be as strict as you like, choosing to give them a point or not if the answer is right but it is spelled incorrectly. You can have them try again if they're within the time limit or make it so once they submit it, it's final. I might also give an extra point for the fastest group to finish.
  5. Once one category is officially finished, unfold to/distribute the second section. Rinse and repeat. Do the same for the third section.
  6. Once all the sections are completed, have the groups calculate their total points and see who the winning group is. If there's a tie, you can do a final question, janken, or let it be depending on time.

I haven't done this activity yet so I'm not sure if it'll be too easy or too hard, but I'm hoping it's just right...
