MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Scrap paper for taking notes.

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  • Students first need to learn "to" in "0 to 100".
  • Split class into groups of 4-6.
  • Students play Janken. The winner gets to choose a secret number (write it down!) and doesn't have to guess.
  • Students take turns guessing a number. After each number is guessed, the student who chose the secret number has to tell the others the current range (they may take notes):

(the secret number is 23)
Student A: 81
Chooser: 0 to 81
Student B: 22
Chooser: 22 to 81
Student C: 25
Chooser: 22 to 25

  • The student who got the number right loses. (The game is DON'T guess the right number)
  • The student who lost gets to choose the next number and the game continues.

VARIATIONS:

  • The loser has to say the ABC's or some English phrase (I like apples).

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Encourage students to take notes so that they won't forget what the upper or lower limits are.
