Activity

Who Ate Anpanman's Head?

A simple whodunit where three suspects give their alibis and you have to decide who ate Anpanman's head when he was sleeping.

DIRECTIONS

  • Split the class into groups.
  • Go through the suspects' testimonies giving time for groups to take notes and discuss the meaning of each statement.
  • Remind students that all suspects believe they are telling the truth.
  • Have groups accuse one of the suspects and give a reason why.

NOTES

-This activity was made to practice the "When~, ~" grammar point, but it uses a variety of grammar including present, past, and past continuous tenses.
- I never got to use this activity, so I'm not sure of the difficulty.
- All of the suspects are telling the truth to the best of their ability! You must use a bit of logic and your imagination to figure out who did it!

VARIATIONS

  • Have the groups become a jury. All groups must reach a consensus before they accuse a suspect. If not all groups agree, have groups swap members and try to convince each other of their choice.

This is hilarious! My JTE thought it could be hard due to the conjunctions and using -ing when discussing the past. Is this for 3rd years?

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I made this for 2nd years to practice the when grammar point. In the Blue Sky textbook, Unit 1 part 2 is when and Unit 1 part 3 is past continuous, which is why I thought it might be okay. I figured we could always confirm the meanings as a class if necessary. I feel like it would be a good review game for 3rd years though!
