Listening Practice (TV Shows)

Short clips from Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and cartoons. Goes with a worksheet to fill in the dialogue.

I was asked for a listening practice activity, using dramas or music. So I made this!

Materials:
1) worksheet - It has the dialogue with some fill-in-the-blanks. Also, there are a couple questions about the content of the videos.
2) videos

*For the videos, there are Youtube links in the worksheet, but I will provide the Google Drive folder to download the videos too. I have trimmed them and increased the volume. There is a version with subtitles and without subtitles for each.

Instructions:

1) There are 4 videos. Hand out the worksheet and explain that they must listen closely. Maybe let the students listen to each video (with no subtitles) about 2-3 times, and then after going over the answers, show the subtitled version.

2) The first video is from Friends. There is a word bank, so they must fill in the blanks using the word bank.

3) The second video is from The Big Bang Theory. It's free answer, so no word bank this time.

4) The third video is from The Iron Giant. Two of the lines of dialogue have a choice. They should circle the correct word. The others are free answer.

5) The fourth video is from Teen Titans. This one has full lines to write, but they are very simple and easy-to-hear sentences.

You can ask the students for the answers or have them write on the black board, or just simply talk about each video and what it means throughout the activity! So when they listen to it again, they can get more clarity on the meaning behind the dialogue.
Can be used as a warmup throughout multiple classes.

I'm going to try this today. If it goes well, you might've just shown me an interesting way to engage the students with English!
