I wanted to make a fun review game for our last class so I made this video game-esque powerpoint game. You can play at the end of 3rd grade and also use this at the beginning of 4th grade to review. Also feel free to change the questions. This will likely take around a whole class period to play.
This is meant to be played as a class, but you could break into groups and have them take turns answering questions. However it is a cooperative game where they try to win back their lost items from townsfolk without losing all 5 lives, so there’s no way to give some groups points and not others.
Caution: Do NOT use the arrow keys, many animations and slides are triggered by clicking so you will need to be at the mouse. There are many animations and sound effects so be careful when going through the slides. I recommend playing through the entire game by yourself or with someone before you play in class so you can get used to how to play and where to click.
Please download as a Powerpoint as it cannot be played on Google Slides.
Here is a layout of the gameplay:
Press Start and let the slides run through the plot (no need to click through until you get to Level 1). Here’s a run down of the story: an evil wizard has accidentally dropped his crystal and it lands in your house. Because you’re late, you don’t realize you have put the crystal in your bag. When you are running to school the evil wizard steals your bag and throws all the contents around town. So you must pick up your belongings and get to school. To get your items you have to fight people around town.
When you get to each level explain the options (the buildings/places marked by the stars). You can either call on an individual student or let them yell out where they want to go. Click the star and the battle will begin. First the class must answer the question, this is a review game so help out the students if they are struggling to answer. Then the students choose a weapon, one weapon will defeat the enemy and you will get one item. The other weapon will miss and you will lose a heart. You can decide which weapon by having students raise hands or if playing in groups, have the group decide which weapon. Once you get the item or lose a heart make sure you click the map, it will bring you back to the level map and the star you went through will disappear.
When the class loses a heart, click on the heart icon above the elementary school, this will take you to the lives screen. Click on the heart to change it from red to gray and back again. Then click on the map for the level you are on to bring you back to where you left off. If the class has run out of hearts, click the sky background, this will take you to the game over screen. The students can choose to try again (yes) or give up (no). Once they say yes, you will be able to choose the level and restart that level so the students don’t have to redo the whole game just the level.
Once you have completed all the stars in the level, click the background image, this will take you to the level up screen. Click on the “level up” graphic to take you to the next level.
Once you get to Level 3, there will be two opponents for each place. After the first enemy you must remember whether the students have lost a heart as you cannot get to the heart screen until you battle both opponents. Maybe write a reminder on the board. When you get a “hit” make sure you click on the background image to get to the Smash bros “new challenger is approaching” screen, once you get to this screen you can click anywhere to get to the next opponent. You can click anywhere when you “miss” but just to be safe, it’s best to always click on the background image for levels 3 & 4.
Once you complete Level 4, click the level map background to get to the boss fight and will fight against the evil wizard. Once they answer the question, there is only one choice and it will defeat the enemy. You will then go to the “mission accomplished” screen, click the “mission accomplished” graphic to go to the last level map. On this level there is only the elementary school, click this to go to school.
At school the slides will play automatically until the teacher asks you “Do you have a recorder?” If you fought the boss then you gained the recorder so click “yes”, if you didn’t fight the boss you will click “no”. If you have the recorder you get to play your solo, if not another student gets the solo. Either way it will play a mediocre recorder version of “My heart will go on” from Titanic. Then you will reach the end.
There are many animations so there may be issues so please let me know if there is anything I need to fix. I’ve gone through it a few times but there could always be issues lurking. I also know it can be quite confusing so let me know if you need any clarification.

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful PPT !
Just tried this at my 3rd grade class that finished the textbook wayyy too early compared to my other schools, and they absolutely loved it! The length of the activity was perfect for one whole class period too. Thanks so much!
This sounds awesome! But I cannot access it :(
Interesting game! My 3rd grade students loved it!
@bethiepoo007 are you not able to access the page at all? I've checked the settings and anyone with the link should be able to go to File and Download as a PPT
