Relative Clause Karuta

20 karuta card designs made for Unit 6-2 of HWG3, reduced relative clauses. Answer sheet for helping students in class.

I made 20 different designs with a variety of topics. It takes a while to cut out all the cards and sort them into a pack but it felt worth it after the lesson went well. You can either spread the entire deck of cards face down around the table in a mix of both pictures and explanations or separate the two.

Just be aware, the black and white sets took the quality of some of the photos down a lot and the pictures also sometimes showed through - I caught a cheeky student trying to cheat by looking too closely. Color prints, using card or laminating them will fix this of course.

I did a quick explanation as the students were already aware of how to play, make sure they read the full sentence if they find a match.

It's worth walking around the classroom with the answer sheet to check answers, I put two different castles in the pack to make it a little more difficult!

These cards look very nice! I wish I had this when we did Reduced relative clauses! But I may try using this for a review activity!

Hey there, I made it on canva so here's a link to an editable version, hopefully it works so you can change to the textbook of your choice.

Hi, thanks for sharing. I really like the idea but I'm new to this game. So, I just have a few questions.

      1. How many sets of cards did you prepare?
      2. Did you do it by group? (Divide the class into 5 groups and gave each a set of cards).
      3. Does the answer sheet serves as a checklist? Or just guide if they actually don't have any idea about the picture?

I'm short in time and kinda having difficulty finding/ thinking of unique activities for the past participle. So, I'm leaning with this one for my class observation. I hope you don't mind. Thank you kindly.

Hey there, I prepared about 7 or 8 sets. I've ran the activity a few times and feel it's best with groups of 4-5 students. The answer sheet serves as a guide for you and your JTE to verify the answer quickly. Unfortunately it was quite time consuming to print and cut all the cards into their sets. You don't need to laminate them but it's good if you want to use them in many classes or future schools. Good luck in your lesson observation!

Hi, it took me time to respond. It was really helpful and my class observation went well, I only used the card with pictures and did the normal Karuta. Thanks again for sharing your materials. More power!
