Goal: Practice various prepositions
Textbook: Sunshine 2 (pg.88)
I start the class with a short review of prepositions, they have been studying, and then distribute the ‘Hints’ sheet.
Give them a few minutes to circle bolded and underlined terms, of locations, they don’t know the meaning of.
Afterward, they get into groups and use the hints to complete the map. My students did this in groups, so I gave each group an A3-sized print of the map.
One student would be in charge of writing while the rest tried to figure out the answer to the hints.
There is also an additional handout to practice writing prepositions. I usually do this in the following class.
As you all pretty much know your student's level will determine the best way to present this information (My students were pretty overwhelmed the first time).
I don’t think the layout of the 'Hints' print is the greatest so feel free to spruce it up as you deem fit. I had previously put them as cards, but that significantly increased the prep time.
Class Materials:
Hints: The hints are written for 2nd year junior high school students, but you can edit them to a level that you feel is best, for your students.
Map worksheet
Map worksheet (answers): Given to the Japanese English teacher.
‘ Where is ‘ Questions:
To practice writing prepositions, I added a questions handout as well. They use the map, which they have completed, to answer the questions. This is usually completed in the following class.
I added a compass rose due to making some hints oddballs I would write the meaning of the N E S W on the board and without saying anything in hopes they would understand.
Hi @halfdash! Would you be able to provide the Map worksheet and the answer sheet for this activity? You only attached the Question Sheet so I was wondering if you maybe forgot to add the other sheets or should the teachers just provide their own map? Hope you could clarify this. Thank you! :)
@HeyitsMori Sorry for the delayed response! I was out of commission for the last couple days. Updated the files. Thank you!
