I took rebvandev's Freestyle Othello idea and made it digital! Thank you for the inspiration.
Description:
- This digital version is designed to be uploaded for use on students tablets.
- Students play 'Freestyle Othello' in pairs, where the counter can be placed in any square, not just adjacent.
-There are 25 pictures in a 5x5 grid. In order to place a counter students must make a "How xx!" and/or "What (a) xx ~~!" sentence based on the picture in the square they want.
- There is a help sheet to remind them of the form and to give them adjective ideas.
- I animated the powerpoint so that when you click on a picture a white counter appears in that square. Click again for it to change to black. Click again and it'll return to white. The 3rd click on the counter will make it disappear.
What a fun and interesting way to practice this grammar point! Thank you for sharing :D
Great activity. Thanks for sharing.
How do you play the game? Is it like connect four and they need to get 4 in a row?
@lianneinjapan It might be easier to look up the rules of regular Othello (also known as Reversi), but I'll do my best to briefly explain!
In Othello, two players place disks on the board in turn (one has white, the other has black). The aim is to have more of your own coloured disks on the board than your opponents. If you manage to sandwich the opponents piece(s) with your own either horizontally, diagonally or vertically, you can flip their disk(s) over to your colour. You keep placing disks until there's no more room (or there's no legal spaces in the proper version, but this is "freestyle".)
Nowadays, I actually play it as Connect 4 using unoplusunoistu's template, and a grid filled with pictures like this for them to make sentences about as they place their pieces. (I highly recommend unoplusunoistu's materials, they're awesome!)
Thank you so much for sharing!!! :DDD
