Feel free to change up the powerpoint as needed.
1. Students look at the 3 pictures first and then I ask, "What does Learning from Nature mean?" Students talk and can answer in Japanese.
2. Go through the vocabulary on page 126. I said the word, had students repeat. Then, the students read to themselves. Depending on how much emphasis you want to place on the vocabulary (in my classes, we just wanted the students to get the overall idea, rather than understanding everything), you may want to give the students more time with the vocabulary. I sometimes will have the students pair up, one student says Japanese, the other answers in English, then switch the role.
3. You read the first paragraph, have the students follow in their books. Then, show them the ppt slide with Leonardo da Vinci, giving a simple explanation.
4. Students have a chance to talk to clarify what it's about. I didn't have the students verbally respond to anything at this point, just moved on, but the teacher was listening in and kind of let me know when they had finished discussing and that they were getting the point.
5. I continued with this same method for the following pages. At the end of the powerpoint is an idea for summarizing each paragraph, but we didn't end up using that in class. The students can answer the questions in the text, on page. 129.
