A detective style game that can be played in a variety of ways.
Included are 20 different characters, two of which have stolen a bag of money! (or any other situation you want to create!)
An answer sheet for the students to write down what the character was doing and who they were with.
I've played it as a walk around and ask others game. This way they are having to ask and answer questions multiple times.
Every student gets a character card and an answer sheet.
You'll want to start off explaining that a bunch of money was stolen and they are on the search for the culprits! It's up to you if you want to tell them how many culprits there are or leave it a secret until the end.
We used this kind of conversation structure:
A: What is your name?
B: My name is __.
A: What were you doing? (yesterday/last night etc)
B: I was __.
A: Who were you with?
B: I was with ____.
Then students change roles. Rinse and and repeat.
They'll want to write down the information they heard from the other person on their answer sheet in order to find the culprits.
*This can be shortened by only using half of the characters if needed. I have some larger classes so generally have a double set. The JTE and I will be the extra character cards if needed.
*Probably can be played in a group as well but I think you would need at least 6 people and each person gets 2 cards. You can then have the group ask the questions to each person.
*Also could be done as a read and run activity. Have the students write down the correct sentences for each character after they've relayed the information.
wow! that's a nice one. Could you please upload the editable version of this activity too?
