Used KobeALT's spot it game for uppercase letters but I changed their Pikachu pictures to Tonkatsu from Sumikko Gurashi and made all of the letters lowercase.
The way I play is about the same as KobeALT.
- Students will play in groups of 2-6, starting with one card each and the rest of the deck face up in the middle.
- At the same time, everyone will look at the card in their hand and find a letter/number/character that matches between that card and the one in the middle. (the math behind this game is pretty cool, every single card will have one match with every single other card)
- The first student to call out the match get's to take the top card of the deck and place it at the top of the pile they're collecting in their hand. Any student is allowed to call out a match, at any time, no turns are taken. Students who call out a match at the same time should do janken.
- Once the deck in the middle has run out, students will count the cards in their hand and whoever has the most wins.
There are other versions of this game that you can find online: https://www.mindware.orientaltrading.com/pdf/instructions/56037.pdf
This deck of cards is based off the 31 card Spot It Jr deck, a full sized deck is 55 cards and can accommodate 2-8 players.
I printed this out onto thicker paper so you can't see through the back as easily, then I laminated it, and cut out each square... it's really time consuming to make a single deck but it's worth it, my students have had a lot of fun with it.
You might also notice that some letters will look the same since they're all facing different directions, like "u" and "n" I didn't want to add the underline in before printing because it was kinda ugly and way too thick, so I just drew in my own faint lines with a pencil before laminating.
