This activity can be done after students learned the uses of the infinitives in the 2nensei textbook. It's as easy as telling the students they will do the worksheet to get a secret message from the ALT. I told them that if they got the secret message and brought me their completed worksheet, they could have a sticker. Some students finished relatively quickly, so I instructed them to walk around and help their friends break the code, too!
The questions in the green box are matching questions. Once they complete all six, it gives them coordinates for the code that provides the answer in the blue box. [to see]
The questions in the blue box are fill in the blank. Once they write the answers, they can get the answer for the yellow oval. [i am]
The questions in the orange box are ordering questions. The last one is a little tricky for them because it includes "for you" (It is necessary FOR YOU to study every day.)
I did NOT tell them how to solve the worksheet, or how each part worked. I just gave it to them and let them figure it out, and they were able to.
The worksheet isn't beautiful, so feel free to change it or redesign it, but the activity itself was a big hit with my class. Even if you decide to start from scratch and make your own similar activity, I think it will be really fun for the kids. We didn't have time to check the answers as a class, so I told students that if they didn't finish during class, they could bring it to me in the teacher's room later for their reward.
