LETTER LINK GAME

A fun game to challenge students' vocabulary.

Originally Inspired by this Lesson: https://www.altopedia.net/activities/2140-p-for-pizza-esl-version

However, I didn't want to spend a bunch of time cutting paper, so I made this game which is similar.

This lesson takes great use of this website: https://pickerwheel.com/

Before the lesson, prepare the 3 different wheels. (There are instructions in the file: WHEEL INFO)

Get students into groups (3/4/5) I like to have 6 groups.

Give each group the ANSWER SHEET worksheet, and give them a team name.
(I like to use colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink)

Explain the game, by using the PowerPoint presentation.
Explain that each topic on the ANSWER SHEET has a number, a number will be chosen by using the wheel, and that is the Topic.

Play the game.
After choosing the Topic and Letter, set a timer for students to have to answer within.
(I do 40~60 seconds, depending on the classes ability)

Each team starts with 10 points.
With the points, you can either:
A: get the JTE to keep track of points on the Blackboard,
B: keep track of points yourself, or
C: make students change their own points after you spin the wheel (if they're trustworthy lol)
(B is my preferred way. Using a .txt document: (See: WHEEL INFO.pdf for Example)

With the SWAP option on the POINT wheel, you can either:
A: let students choose what team to swap with,
B: choose randomly by using playing cards (A,2,3,4,5,6) and giving each team a number before the game, or
C: make another wheel with the team names, and choose randomly that way.
(B is my preferred way)

If a Letter is too difficult, I spin the wheel again and give them 2 options to start the word with.
*
For my higher-level classes I sometimes make them write 2 words, not 1, when a Letter is too easy.
