Halloween Stepping Stones - Colors

A Halloween themed visual guide to the classic stepping stone flashcard game.

I'm sure others have already heard of Stepping Stones but I personally struggle with explaining game rules so I made a visual. I wanted my 1st grade lesson to be Halloween themed while also reviewing what they have learned this year so far, these rules specifically show colors.

How to play:

Line the flashcards in a row either on the floor or on the white board.
Divide the class into two teams (ghosts vs zombies) and have each team at opposite ends of the flashcard line.
A student from each team moves forward, and says the vocabulary on the card.
When they meet at the same card, students play RPS.
The winner continues forward, while the loser goes to the back of their team's line.
The next St in that group starts from the beginning.
The game continues until one St makes it to the opposite side of the board, in which their team will receive 1 point and go back to the end of their line.

I suggest to play for each student to go once or twice and have a teacher guiding each side to ensure the students are actually saying the vocabulary out loud.

This powerpoint first reviews colors, then visually goes over the rules without needing to explain much at all in English. You can even leave the last slide on the white board to use in place of flashcards. Also if you know how to edit, you can change the subject matter to any vocabulary!
