It is that time of year where lower grade lessons are becoming centered around Christmas, yay! But I want to focus more on reviewing material they have learned.
Have students get into their lunch groups.
Each group gets a set of snowman cards they should spread out evenly.
They must listen to the ALT describe the snowman: One eye, two arms, one nose.
The fastest student to spot the correct snowman keeps the card and it equates to 1 point.
That's all there is to it! Designed for 2nd graders as they have already learned body parts, but since this is for a holiday lesson I kept the vocabulary super simple. They only need to know: eyes, arms, nose, one, two, zero (or no). I also gave the snowmen names they'd understand but they may not be able to read at their level. I recommend drawing the answer on the board to confirm the correct snowman.
Also this is all made in Word using shapes so it is super easy for anyone to edit for possibly higher levels! Let me know if anything is amiss.
nice
I used this yesterday for 2nd graders, and I felt that 18 cards was a bit much, so I used half of them. I was a bit worried it could be a little challenging? But they did great, and they had a lot of fun. Well, one kid ran out of the room in a rage, but seems like it is normal for him, and bound to happen with younger students and competitive games sometimes haha. Thanks a lot for this! It helped me!
Thanks for the feedback! I am also unsure if I will use all 18 cards, but I made that many just based on calculations on how many combos could be made. I will think on it!
Coming back to update! 18 cards for groups of four worked perfectly, it seemed to give everyone a chance to really look.
I generally avoid doing karuta with 1st and 2nd graders because inevitably it always ends in tears for some. But this looks fun and with 18 cards everyone should at least get a few. Great work.
Nice idea! I'll definitely use this for my special needs classes too :)
