More and Most Trivia Quiz

A 15 question trivia quiz that uses only more and most. Students are in pairs and think then write and read their answers.

Materials

  • Trivia Powerpoint
  • Worksheet for writing answers - one copy of the first page for each student

How to Play

  1. Split the class into pairs or trios depending on the size of the class.
  2. Give each student the writing worksheet. Explain that for each question, they will think and talk with their partner then write their answers as a simple sentence on the worksheet. They can just write "Kimetsu no Yaiba is more popular." They don't have to write the perfect English sentence. It's also okay if the two students have different answers. They don't have to agree.
  3. Go through the slides and ask the questions. Try to add some more context to each question (I wrote some stuff on the second page of the worksheet, so read that).
  4. Give them time to think about the answer and discuss, then go around and ask some students for their answer. Then, go to the front and ask the whole class. Just have them raise their hands and ask "Who thinks (answer 1, 2, or 3)?"
  5. After each question, have them put a circle or an x in the last column for correct or wrong.
  6. After the last question or when you run out of time, the person with the most correct answers "wins."

Other Notes

  • The last few questions have a different form of question. They use more and most to mean "many." For example, "Which has more visitors?" When you get to these questions, be sure to explain to the students how to use more and most this way.
  • Feel free to change the slides to things you think the students will be more interested in or that you are more interested in.
  • I strayed away from using more subjective adjectives like beautiful, famous, useful, etc. You can use them, but if the answer is too obvious then the question isn't fun. And when the answer isn't obvious, then it usually becomes subjective.
  • The question on slide 13 should be changed to match the ALT or JTE.
  • I included some information for some of the slides to tell you what I talked about. This is to provide context to the students. I usually talk about it after I tell them the answer or as I'm telling them the answer depending on the question.

These are great. I use a couple of similiar questions as well. For the art one I always tell them its based on art that has actually been sold at some point. Obviously the Mona Lisa is the most famous but its never been sold.

Great activity! If anyone wants to do it this year, you can change the first answer from Kimetsu no Yaiba to Jujutsu Kaisen. According to what I found JJK was the best selling manga of 2022. Also if you want to change the Obama question to be about Biden, he is a well known lover of ice cream, lol
