Students get into groups of about 4 people. Give each group a whiteboard and a marker. Use the Powerpoint to show a dictionary definition. Read it alloud slowly two times for the students. Then give them 2-3 minutes to figure out the word. My JTE let them use their computers to help them.
Once time is up, every team must raise their boards. Each correct team gets a point.
We usually did only 3 or 4 of the PowerPoint questions.
After this, give students the worksheet. Give them time to look up words in the dictionary and write down the definition. Then, collect the worksheets and quiz the whole class.
This activity is really challenging but my students really enjoyed putting the puzzle pieces together.
For the PowerPoint and worksheet, I used the font that goes with the New Crown textbooks. If you don't have this font, I recommend changing it to one that you like.
