DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  • After giving each student a handout, have them connect a line from the occupations to the tool used in each job.
  • Then, have them repeat after you the words of each column.
  • Once you feel they are competent with the vocabulary, write an example sentence on the chalkboard: "An airplane is used by a pilot."
  • Split the class into groups via vertical rows and give the first student in each row a baton/microphone.
  • Tell the class you are going to give them a occupation or tool and they must form a Passive Voice sentence using the word you gave them. The first student to do this passes their baton/mic to the next student directly behind them.
  • Once the last student in a row has answered, that row is done and they can sit back and relax.
  • Keeping going with this activity until 2-3 entire rows have finished.

VARIATIONS:

  • For a writing exercise, once the activity is over, have them open their English notebooks and write 3-5 sentences from that were spoken during the game.
  • Instead of saying an occupation or tool, you might print out and blow up the pictures and show them the picture instead. However, if you do this option, make sure you still say the picture out loud when you show it so the students can keep hearing the proper pronunciation.
