This is my day: freeze chanting

The freeze game is a fun way to get the younger, energetic (or rowdy) classes to expend some energy while drilling new vocabulary. Chanting English with a lot of movement

I see lots of power point games, which can be sure fun and engaging for some classes. But I have some very rowdy kids that often use games like that as their own personal chat times. So I thought I would share a great game that gets the kids up, speaking, and focusing. My class loved it!

You will need:
Lots of energy
Flashcards for Let's try 2 lesson 9.
A clear area (ie. move desks to the back of the room)

Preparation
Introduce the new phrases
Introduce an action or gesture for the new phrase. (Ask for actions or gestures from the students to increase involvement.)
Get the students to do the action and say the words with you.

Description
Set a "FREEZE" phrase from the vocabulary set. This is the phrase that makes everyone freeze.
Call out each word and the students repeat, doing the action at the same time.
When you call out the "FREEZE" word, the students freeze, making no sound and not moving.
If a student moves or makes a noise, they are out and should stand with you and help you spot other students who don't freeze, or just sit down! (they must speak still!)

Keep adding more freeze words and ramp up the speed!
