MATERIALS NEEDED:
- NiceToMeetYou handout: Five cards for each student. On the back of every card, stamp it with with various stamps. (explained below)
DETAILED EXPLANATION:
- After doing a self-introduction skit with JTE, check if the students understood it.
- After practicing the expressions a few times, distribute the name cards.
- Tell the students they will make five meishis (business cards). They can draw a face or anything they like in the boxes but they must write their names in English. Give them 3-4 minutes to do this.
- Then, demonstrate the activity with the JTE. First, introduce each other, and then janken. The winner receives a meishi from the loser. They say goodbye and find another partner.
- If they have lost all their cards, they must sit down.
- Stop the activity when the majority of the students have sat down.
- Tell them to look at the back of the cards that they have. Remember how I said to stamp the back of the cards? Now, assign points for every kind of stamp. For example: Stitch stamp = 3 points, Pooh stamp = 10 points, Mickey stamp = 0 point, etc.
- The student with the highest score wins.
TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:
- You can use music to indicate the students should start the activity. Then, stop it to indicate they must return to their seats.
- Don't explain the significance of the stamps until the last part for an added element of surprise.
