Note: It would be advisable to inform the class before the activity starts that the quiz requires them to pay attention ( focus on the screen and be silent) as the letters will be flashing. Answers cannot be announced by anyone. Students shouldn't read the letters aloud. I did this for grades 4,5 and 6. Some words might be difficult for students to read Ex. Kite. Children may be allowed to discuss it quietly amongst their group member. I used 2 buzzers for this activity. In such case buzzers aren't available, an eraser in the middle of the table between the players will be OK!
( It would be best for the ALT's if doing activity alone ( or teacher ) to have the Japanese translation of these words in hand. ) This could either be a quiz or a simple class activity or lesson.
Things to prepare: 1 table ( in front)
2 buzzers ( or an eraser )
- Divide the class in 2 groups.
- 1 student from each group takes their turn ( the order depends on the teacher ) . Ask the players to put their hands on their head and race to push the buzzer to answer.
- If the answer is wrong, the other player gets a chance to steal. As simple as that !
