A double-sided worksheet that you can use to help your students write their own haiku. All the instructions are written as haiku, so you can use them to help explain syllables. There are also some words with the number of syllables that can be helpful. At the bottom of the page there are spaces for them to write two practice haiku. Then they can choose one of the two, and write them in the space on the 2nd page (I usually print them double-sided to save paper). A useful website that the students can use to check syllables is https://www.howmanysyllables.com. You can type in words or sentences. If you type in words, it'll also give you synonyms and their syllables. Have fun!

For counting syllables, I recommend teaching the chin method! Rest your hand under your chin and say a word slowly. How many times does your chin drop onto your hand? That is the number of syllables.
