MATERIALS NEEDED:
- JankenActionMeishi file (Cut up the cards and give each student 3 or more.)
DETAILED EXPLANATION:
- Teach the actions, maybe using flash cards or writing the verbs on the board and checking that students understand. You could do a TPR style warm up and have students follow your directions.
- Demo with the teacher - JTE and ALT each get one oversize card so the students can see what you are doing. Play janken. The winner can say what is on his card. For example, I want you to shake my hand. The loser has to perform that action, and then give his/her card to the winner. If the loser has no more cards, he or she can get another one from a teacher.
- Pass out one card to each student. Check if there are any questions about the directions on the card.
- Allow the students 5-10 minutes to play.
TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:
- Some students might be reluctant to perform these actions. They are 14 and 15 years old after all. I feel that doing the actions as a class before the game helps, but also just make sure you are close with the class before trying this game.
