New Year Traditions Around the World Game

This is a short warm up game about New Year traditions in some countries.

Divide the students into groups and let them guess the correct answer.

  • Let me know your traditions in your own country so I can add them to the game.

Great powerpoint! Just one thing is that the slide that mentions Auld Lang Syne could be answered with the UK, too.

This is a great warm up activity for the new year. However I must say for slide two that in Jamaica, cornbread, greens and beans isn't a dish commonly eaten there. Maybe something along the lines of a "watch night" service would be a good replacement if you do decide to edit.

Greece could also be a good addition, usually we make Vasilopita (its a cake with a coin in it) and then you cut pieces for the members of your family and whoever gets the coin has good luck for the year :)

Wash their laundry before New Year’s Day. Kids were like don`t you wash laundry everyday? lol. Good point.
