Activity

Food Hunt

Pair speaking activity that practices restaurant dialogue specific to Here We Go 1.

This activity is pretty straightforward. This is a speaking based activity with a short writing portion as a cooldown following the activity.

Materials:
Prints
Writing utensil
Timer

First, tell the kids which roles they will need to do. In my classes, I split the roles up by columns. One column would be A, the next B, the next A and so on. They would switch their roles later on by rotating "kaitenzushi-style". I would have the whole class move around the room by having the students in column A move forward and transfer to column B once they hit the end of the row. Column B would then move backwards and transfter to the next Column A when they hit the back of the row. Students will be able to change partners and roles in this method.

Then go through the dialogue. I had the students practice at 1 minute and 30 seconds per pair. I believe it is pretty self-explanatory how to use the worksheet. If A wins, the dialogue continues, and if B wins, the dialogue ends. If a pair finishes early, they can switch roles and try for more wins. When a student is in the A role, they will circle the menu items if they win rock scissors paper. They can circle a menu item more than once if they order it in their dialogue. Ask the students to count how many circles they got at the end to determine a winner.

There are two menus, one with romaji and one without. My JTE didn't want romaji, but if you want the kids to be able to better read the words I had this version.

The answer to the last two sentences should be
I'd like a hot dog and cola.
and
How much is that in total?

Please let me know if this helped!
