This is a digital 'freestyle' Othello inspired by rebvandev's activity. (Thank you!)
Description:
- There are 25 pictures in a 5 x 5 grid.
- Students must make a "XX look(s) YY" sentence corresponding to the square they want to place a counter in. For example, The girl looks sad.
- They play othello while making these sentences. (Although they can place a counter anywhere, not just adjacent. This is the 'freestyle' part).
- There's a helpsheet to help them remember the form and to give them adjective ideas.
How to Play regular Othello (also known as Reversi):
- There are two players. One has white pieces, the other has black pieces.
- Players take it in turn to place a piece on the board.
- The aim is to have more of your own colour on the board by the end than your opponent.
- The board is set up with 4 pieces in a square in the center, two black and two white (like a Battenberg cake pattern......)(it's hard to explain so maybe google this haha).
- The player must place their piece in a square directly adjacent to one of the oppnents pieces.
- If you manage to flank the opponents piece(s) with your own horizontally, vertically or diagonally, you can flip it/them over to your colour.
It looks great, and I think the students will enjoy it a lot. Just as a suggestion, I think would be a good idea to change the trigger duration from 00:50 to 00:20 for the game to run a little faster.
@aurelio mizukikami thank you for the feedback! I agree, and have made the animation transition times shorter ^_^
I would maybe changed "scared" to 怖がる or おびえた and "bored" to 退屈. 怖い is more scary than scared, and つまらない is more boring than bored.
I am not familiar with this game. Do you mind explaining the rules?
@dmlee56 Sure! I'll add it into the activity description because it seems to be a common question.
