Start with a small talk with your JTE about your favorite childhood anime and TV shows.
Review Present Tense and how to make it a past tense using was and were.
Show some slides in the present tense and ask them how to make it past.
For the following slides, do a pair talk where they can ask each other questions about their favorites. And responding in a proper sentence using was and were. On this part, I'd have JTE and I do a demo on each Question slide, so students know what to answer.
Finally, I printed some Favorites Categories and pasted them on a big white hard paper and made it into a folder. Prepared at least 15 pieces so when students walk around and find pairs, they can look at it available on top of the desk of their classmates.
I also prepared a worksheet where each student can write any number, they want between 1-12. There are only 10 slots on the worksheet. So there are two numbers that they don't have to write.
Game Procedure:
1. Find a pair and play rock scissors paper.
2. Loser ask: Number please.
Winner: Number ____ please. Mark with circle or shade the slot of the chosen number.
Loser: Opens the favorites categories folder and finds the number and tells his partner
" Tell me about your favorite _____ last year / in the past/ when you were a child. "
Winner: answers by using the correct sentence.
E.g. It was _. It was fun. or They were __. They were amazing.
3. Find a new partner and play Janken again.
4. The game is finished once every number in the worksheet is shaded or circled.
