Conditional interview with Doraemon!

This is an interview and writing activity for Lesson 5 part 1 of the One World 3 textbook using some of Doraemon's inventions.

After introducing second conditionals through a powerpoint, I created this activity to have my students practice using the grammar by talking to each other and then writing about it. My students had a lot of fun walking around and interviewing each other and they came up with some very creative uses for the inventions! The worksheet is broken into steps.

The first step is to translate the sentence "If I had an anywhere door, I could visit Paris" into Japanese.

The second step is to go over the practice conversation and the process of the interview (first doing rock paper scissors with their partners).

The third step is to go over the four different Doraemon inventions and their English names. After going over them, I usually give students a couple minutes to pick one and think about their answer to what they would do if they had it. This makes the interviews go more smoothly.

The fourth step is to have the students stand up and interview each other. There's a section for them to write memos after each conversation so that can write about them later (feel free to change the example). I usually gave them about 12 minutes to do this.

The last step, which sometimes turned into homework if there wasn't enough time in class, is for the students to pick 5 people they interviewed and write full sentences using the grammar and their interviewees' answers. I put asterisks warning students to be careful with a/an and pronouns.

If we were short on time, we would have the students start in their pairs and then have one person in each pair rotate a desk. However, they have more fun being able to interview who they want, you just have to make sure they're keeping their conversations on track!
