MATERIALS NEEDED:
- AdjectiveNameGame attachment
- A piece of paper for each student.
DETAILED EXPLANATION:
- Start by putting students into lunch groups, (groups of 6-10).
- Students start by creating a name plate on their desk by folding a paper into thirds like a triangle. (So the paper stands up on their desk and is visible to others). Then, hand out the adjectives sheet and ask them to write their name in (adj-name) format. Ie. Peachy Priscilla, Jumpy Junpei etc.
- First student in the group says, Hi my name is (Modest Mika). What is your name? Second student says, Hi Modest Mika, my name is Jumpy Junpei. Third student has to recite the previous two students' names. Hi Jumpy Junpei, Modest Mika. I'm (so and so)...and so on, until the kids go around the whole group. It is easy for the first couple of students and really challenging for the last, as they have to recite all the adjectives and names. It's a really fun warm-up, especially at the beginning of the year for JHS or SHS (HS).
TIPS/CAUTIONS:
GIVING STUDENTS NICKNAMES IN CLASS CAN BE A SLIPPERY SLOPE! Make sure you clear it with the the person in charge or the home room teacher. Remember, ALTs don't usually know the students' histories, there could be a real landmine waiting for you, be safe and talk it over with someone first!
