Haiku Activity

For this worksheet, students will read a haiku in Japanese and English and share their thoughts about them. Then, they will create their own in Japanese and translate it to English.

I used this activity to begin Unit 2 in New Horizon 2.

The document is pretty self explanatory, I think. But let me know if you have any questions. I let the students write their answers in Japanese, besides the one where they translate their haiku into English (I didn't make them follow the haiku guidelines for their translation because I didn't have enough time, but I would definitely recommend having them try to translate it into haiku format). I also had the students use the "It makes me..." that we learned previously in this book when they filled out how they felt about their classmate's haiku.

Note: I did have to explain to the students that they were writing how the haiku made them feel, not necessarily what the haiku means.
