Asteroids V.2

Dice game to practice has to/have to

*Revisited version of Brent Badger's Asteroids activity from Englipedia. https://www.altopedia.net/activities/297-asteroids

DETAILED EXPLANATION:

  1. After dividing the class into groups, hand out a worksheet to all the students. Hand out a die and an envelope with the prompts to each group.
  2. Give the students time to fill out the worksheet with the prompts randomly picked from the envelope.
  3. The game starts with a student rolling the die (let's call them S1). The goal is for S1 to roll a 1 or a 6. If they don't, it is the next students' turn. When S1 rolls a 1 or a 6, they must perform the prompt (If it's a "She/He has to", the team has to read it, and S1 performs the action. If it's a "We have to", S1 reads, and the whole team perform it together). When they are finished, ONLY S1 can remove the first asteroid. On their next turn, S1 will want to roll a 2, and so on.

The objective is to remove all the asteroids and save Earth. I make it a "cooperative" game by giving them stickers only if the whole team has destroyed all asteroids.

Thank you! Looks fun to play. I hope to try it with my class this week.

Just to clarify for myself (let me know if I read the rules wrong) The group gets the prompt envelope first, and after randomly choosing a prompt, writes it down on their paper.
--I will have them go from top to bottom; 1st prompt written for dice (6), 2nd prompt written for dice (5), etc.

Then after having written it all down, returns the envelope and then we can all start the game working with the prompts they have written for each dice#.

At first I was thinking with each group having an envelope, they would pull as they play. For instance, if they roll the first 1 or 6 then they pull a prompt, write it, and do it...BUT your way is better XD time saver and they're not rushing to write etc.

      Thanks again!
