Activity

"I Like/I Don't Like" Divide

Students practice I like and I don't like with movement

First I go through the slides with examples of I like and I don't like. (One slide is about me. You can delete it or change it to things you like).

For the activity, students have to go to the side of the room that they agree with - One side is "I like" and the other is "I don't like."

After you show the item, the students will go to the sides. Then, I usually start with the smalles group and move to the larger group (for dramatic effect as the bigger groups like to yell - It can get loud if the students are passionate about the item). But I say, "I like grapes. 1, 2-" and the group of students on the "like" side say, "I like grapes." Then I do it with the other side. Every class I've done it with, from 2nd to 6th have loved it.

I usually have classes that want a middle option, so I've taught them "I kind of like ____." But you don't have to do that.

After I run out of items on the screen, I have the students say new items. They love getting to choose. You don't even need to use slides to explain it, but the pictures definitely help. Either way, it's a simple activity that the students enjoy - and it gets them moving.
