Splatoon Splatfest ᔦꙬᔨᔦ⚯ᔨᔦఠఠᔨ

Teams place their squid in columns 1, 2, or 3. The number of eggs they receive depends on the column they choose. However, if a Salmonid attacks the column they're in, their team gets wiped out!

How to Play (TL;DR Ver.):

  • Make groups.
  • Do rock, paper, scissors, to decide the order.
  • All teams answer the question.
  • If their answer is correct, they come to the front and place their team squid in column 1, 2, or 3.
  • Once all the teams have placed their team squid, reveal points and give team their points accordingly.
  • If a salmonid attacks their column, remove half/all their points.

Game Variations

1. With Less Salmonids Ver. (RECOMMENDED)
- This is the only version I play now. Salmonids appear after every 2 rounds which adds a lot of tension and hypes the students up (especially for the last round).
NOTE: You can right click on the screen when presenting and click on See All Slides and have the last question be a “Salmonid” slide.
2. With Salmonids Ver.
- After the 4th round, salmonids will appear in EVERY round.
3. With No Salmonids Ver.
- This version has no salmonids and only contains eggs for teams to collect
4. Blank Ver.
- In this version, there are no Salmonids or eggs which you can fully customize to how you like it.

How many points can they get?

※Salmon eggs = points
200, 400, 600, 800, 1000

Optional Materials to Make:

  • Team Squids (NOTE: Alternatively, you can have the students write their team number under the column they want to claim)
  • Point Cards (about 10 each, 200 x10, 400 x10, 600 x 10, etc) (NOTE: You can write your points yourself though it does take more time.)

Note:

  • I made a bunch of questions for JHS New Horizon (2021 Edition) that you can use. It can be found here: https://altopedia.net/activities/4537-new-horizon-question-collection-1-2-3
  • You can use Salmonids + Other Sprites to replace/alter the salmonids to how you like it.
  • If possible, tell the students that once they have placed their team squid, they cannot move it.
  • You can set a time limit for each question, but I play it in a way where all teams get to answer and assist the team that are struggling until they get it right. (You can ask your JTE to walk around and help too)
  • In a full lesson (50 mins) I only have time to do about 15-18 Qs, but I made extra slides (up to 30 Qs) just in case you need it.

This is fantastic! I don't usually go for themed games but the way this one is explained/thought out is great and exciting. How did you make the Team Squids? I have a large class that would love this game but they usually end up in 7 teams :,)

This is great! I agree with meatydog that If possible could you upload more team squids? Groups of 3 or 4 would be best with how i want to play this so id need 8-10 teams

@meatydog same here! Thankfully Splatoon is a safe theme since most kids know it and even if they don't it's still quite enjoyable.
In regards to the Team Squids, I altered the colours all in CANVA. If you want me to make a 7th colour, pls lmk :)

      @Metapod wow 8-10 teams?! Yikes 😂
What are your class sizes? Hahaha
I'm quite busy atm but will see if I can post some soon in the near future.

      @unoplusunoistu
My classes average about 32-35 kids so 8 teams would put most into groups of 4. Since I'm planning on using this for ES 5th grade (students cant write well yet) I'm planning on switching up the answer method to allow students multiple times to answer and review. More teams means more times each team member gets a chance to participate! :D I'll probably just make my own squids in Paint and making those last teams special since I'm horrible at drawing haha

Thank you! I figured it out but thank you for offering! :D

Great game!!! Used it today. Kids loved it. My classes are bigger with more groups so I had to search google for additional squid pics cause I dont know how to use paint. I always admire yall that are able to make these great games. My JTE even complimented it and asked how I made it (I had to lie and say made it.. cant give out all the secrets) But again kudos <3

Also to save time I didnt let the kids get up and come to the board I let them say their numbers instead.
