I created this Jeopardy-style ESL game for my junior high school students to help them review "He is," "She is," and "They are" terms, as well as simple vocabulary. My students really enjoy playing this game and are often surprised by how many characters and famous people they recognize! This is a fun and interactive way to engage students while reinforcing their English skills. With categories like Famous Japanese figures, Anime characters, Not human entities, Video Game icons, and Western Singers, this game is a great way to make learning both enjoyable and educational.

How to Play: 🎮
Preparation:
- Load the PowerPoint and have it ready to play.
- Divide the class into up to six teams (or less). Each team should have a whiteboard and a marker.
- Load the PowerPoint and have it ready to play.
Selecting a Category: 🗂️
The game board displays five categories:- Famous Japanese 🇯🇵
- Anime 📺
- Not human 🐾
- Video Game 🎮
- Western Singer 🎤
Each category has five questions.
- Famous Japanese 🇯🇵
Playing the Game: 🕹️
- A team chooses a category and a numbered box under it.
- Click the corresponding box to reveal a slide with five facts about a famous person or character.
- I read out loud for my lower-level students, but you could have the group that selected the category read it!
- Teams have 30 seconds to discuss and write down their guess on their whiteboard. Even if they’re unsure, they should write something down because incorrect guesses don’t affect their score.

Submitting Answers: ✨
- Once time is up, all teams hold up their whiteboards to show their answers.
- Answers can be written in English/Romaji, and there’s no penalty for incorrect spelling unless it’s REALLY bad!
- Once time is up, all teams hold up their whiteboards to show their answers.
Revealing the Answer: ✅
- Reveal the correct answer and hit the green check mark to reveal the points slide.
- Teams that guessed correctly earn the points for that question. If no team guessed correctly, no points are awarded.

Notes:
Only my most advanced classes actually get through all 25 people. So my average classes have a few left over by the time class ends.
Happy teaching,

This is really good, but some of the clues seem rather advanced for junior high.
This brings back so many childhood memories for me!!! Thank you so much, it's wonderfully made!
Thanks for creating a “no cloud access” version ;)
This is an awesome game! But I'm looking for the genie lamp, but there are no genie lamps to click for an extra hint.
@dominicbas I actually removed the genie lamp because it confused my korean students. I must have missed it when cleaning up this version. Where did you find the prompt~? I'll remove it so others don't also get confused. Thanks!!
I get an error when I open the google drive link
"Sorry, the file you have requested does not exist."
Error in link. :( I want to keep this saved for a laidback class time.
Link should be up again! edited out Genie lamp notes @dominicbas and changed the link~ Enjoy!
It looks amazing. The hints were a bit hard for myJHS students(2nd & 3rd), but there was at least 1 easy hint that led them to the right answer. They absolutely loved the sabotage aspects of it, especially the variation in point lotto options.
