Halloween Powerpoint and Lesson Plan

Halloween powerpoint with some videos and a short quiz. Also a pdf of the jack o lantern coloring worksheet. It`s gone well!

So my plan for my high schoolers halloween lesson plan is as follows:

I have very low level english learners, but theyre great students and very happy. I wanted to give them a chance to have some visuals, and watch some fun videos and have a chance to do a little bit of artwork. There is a decent amount of prep time, but if youre an ALT like me, you probably have to teach this lesson many many many times, so I think it is worth the extra effort.

Materials you will need:

Whiteboards, dry-erase markers, jack o lantern coloring sheet, colored pencils/crayons/markers(I do not recommend markers because the markers in japan seem to bleed through, but if those are the materials you have, use them at will). If you have some easy prizes like some little halloween stickers (I bought rolls of them from amazon for cheap and the kids love them!) or maybe candy if you are a booshey person, than the kids will love it. Also access to the internet and disney plus or youtube,

  1. I go through the powerpoint. There are some easy transitions, you might want to edit some things as I have some personal details about my brother, but if you want to make him your mascot, he wont object, he loves halloween. You can have students raise their hands if they know the answers to the few guiding questions throughout. The information is pretty basic about halloween. Theres a music video about The nightmare Before chsristmas and scooby doo.

  2. I put the students in small groups and give them whiteboards for the spooky quiz. I made mine short and sweet but feel free to lengthen it if you want. I have the kids pick spooky team names (bat, frankenstein, skeleton, etc.) and I write them on the chalboard. I mostly do this quiz to fill time and because my JTEs asked me to lol.

  3. After the quiz let the students stay in groups and play the phineas and ferb episode from dinsey plus. If your senseis are okay with it, play it in japanese wiht english subtitles. If you are unable to access disney plus there are actually some free phineas and ferb episodes on youtube as well you could take a look at.
I normally pass out the jack o lantern coloring sheets and the coloring materials to the groups while they watch the episode so they have something to do.

  4. With any remaining class time, pass out candy/stickers/congrats to the kids on their coloring, help them write a sentence or two about their jakcolantern.

Example: My Jack o Lantern is colorful. I like my jack o lantern.

  1. I let the kids keep the coloring sheet for fun. Im not really looking for another thing to grade. Most students really enjoy getting to do some easy art and also just not having to do another quiz/assignment. Japanese students work very hard and dont seem to get a lot of class time to have fun and be creative in my opinion so it was fun to spice things up with this lesson plan. I hope this is helpful!
