Advice, Please! "If I were you, I would..." 3年 5.2

JHS 3年 One World textbook, Lesson 5.2. Help Indecisive Tom make decisions by giving him advice (Writing Exercise mainly)

Notes:
Depending on your class' skill level, choose to do this Individually, by Pair, or by Group.

I normally don't like writing exercises during ALT time, since they already do this in regular classes.
But this JTE always asks me to do writing activities, I guess because the students need more practice for exams.

To make it more interesting, aside from providing writing worksheets, I asked the JTE to make the students use their tablets, and type their answers (Write complete sentences in the worksheets, and write only one-word answers on LoiloNote, in very big letters) and send through LoiloNote. The JTE's laptop will be projected on the electronic blackboard, so everyone can see everyone else' answers. It then becomes a sort of poll as to which answer most of the students picked.

Activity Flow:

  1. ALT to distribute the worksheet to students.
  2. JTE to instruct students to use their Loilo Note too.

Review of Grammar:

  1. JTE to review the grammar lesson. Example: If I were you, I would ____ (verb phrase).

Advice, Please!

ALT to explain to students that Tom is always indecisive.
“Indecisive” means he can’t make decisions by himself. He needs the students’ help to decide what to do. Students must give advice to Tom, by answering in complete sentences using the grammar taught.

  1. ALT shows 1 question at a time, and explains the scenario to the students, presenting possible choices.
You can choose to limit their answers to the pictures or choices shown on the file, or make it open-ended.
In my case, I have questions #2 and #10 where they must pick from the limited choices, but for other questions, the pictures are just a guide but they can give other answers.

  2. Students must write an advice/answer sentence on their worksheet, AND type their answer on LoiloNote.

  3. JTE to show everyone’s answers on LoiloNote through the electric blackboard.

  4. ALT will pick the answer chosen by majority of the students, and “follow” that advice.

  5. ALT will repeat the process for the next question and scenario.

  6. The JTE can call on a random student number and ask that student to read aloud his sentence.
