This is a heavily edited version of xxjanism's Thanksgiving powerpoint, but I changed it to be usable for lower grades such as 1st and 2nd! I had made an edit before, but I have further simplified and made minor animation edits now that I have more teaching experience. I have also put in notes for the slides so that it is more accessible to those even who may not know about this holiday.
There is a mini food quiz and a parade video. The video uses somewhat difficult English so I just turn the sound off.
I personally start the lesson with this cute song > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ew9a1JKSfO0 and teach them about being 'thankful'.
' I'm thankful for... ' ' OOに感謝している '
Key words: family, parade, turkey, dinner, football
Suggested Activities:
Make a Parade Balloon - 2nd grade have studied animals, so I gave them a balloon worksheet to make an animal balloon. Personally, I made copies and put them up in the hallway so everyone can see the parade!
Make a Hand Turkey - Americans are probably familiar with this. Students trace their hand then color/draw to make the hand look like a turkey.
Thankful Tree - Last year I was a fool and cut a million leaves for students to draw something they are thankful for. I then made a tree out in the hallway with all of the leaves (whew!)
Thank you so much! These activities are wonderful, I think they will be perfect for my upcoming elementary classes!
Thank you so much!!!! I know nothing about thanksgiving so this really helped me not making a ppt from scratch.
