MATERIALS NEEDED:
- ConditionalAuction worksheet
- Play money: US Dollars / Bubble Boy / Yen
DETAILED EXPLANATION:
- After splitting the class into groups, give students the handout with 20 sentences, some of which are correct and some with errors. The teams must decide which sentences are correct or incorrect. Give them a time limit of 5-10 minutes.
- The object of the game is to buy the most correct sentences. Teams receive one point if they buy a sentence, and an additional bonus point if the sentence is incorrect and they fix it.
- The team with the most points wins.
- Give each team the same amount of money. $200 is recommended. You don’t want to give them too much money because most of the class time will be wasted on betting.
- A different team member should do the betting in each round.
- Start the game with the first sentence. The minimum bet is $5. The spokesperson from each team raises their hand if they want that sentence. This avoids the confusion of them yelling out random numbers.
