DETAILED EXPLANATION:

Each student has a card and 3 point tokens. They pair up and play janken. Janken winner is Player A. He asks first.

Sample Dialog 1

A: Are you flying a kite?
B: Yes, I am.
A: Are you Wario?
B: Yes, I am. (Player A takes a point token)
B: No, I'm not. (It's Player B's turn to ask)
(continue until one player's identity has been discovered)

Sample Dialog 2

A: What are you doing?
B: I'm listening to music.
A: Are you Totoro?
B: Yes, I am. (Player A takes a point token)
B: No, I'm not. (It's Player B's turn to ask)
(continue until one player's identity has been discovered)

TEACHING SUGGESTIONS:

  • Waribashi are cheap and good point counters. Most hyaku yen shops carry them 100 per bag.
  • I have the students trade cards with their partner after each round, so that no one can remember who is who. This also randomizes the winners/losers, so that every student has an equal chance to win.
