Students pick sides on a polarizing issue. Those who disagree get eaten.

This game can be practiced with any grammar point with a binary answer.

"Yes, I do, no I don't, Yes I can, no I can't, I think that's true, I think that's false" etc.

It also gets the kids out of the classroom and the suspense is palpable when everyone is waiting on the Oni for their opinion.

Process:

Take the students to the Gym or the School oval.

One student (usually starts with the ALT to demonstrate) starts as the core Oni. They ask the rest of the class,

"Do you like ___?" or "Can you ___?" etc.

Some of the class respond in turn, "Yes I do!" and move to the right. Then, the remaining students reply "No I don't!" and move to the left. Make sure these two groups are easily distinguishable (don't allow children to dawdle in the middle) and make sure they're lined up neatly.

Then, the class repeats the question back to the Oni, and the oni answers, and moves to the side they agree with. The students in the group with the same opinion as the Oni, all become Onis, and must chase the students who disagreed with them. The final student to get tagged gets to be the new Oni.

Let the students use softballs if it's taking too long.

It's simple, there's no prep, and they love it. Give it a try.
